RISHA School-Based SLP of the Year

RISHA selects a school-based speech language pathologist (SLP) for this award each year. RISHA began recognizing a school-based member as SLP of the year in 2012 when the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education began including SLPs and other related service professionals in their annual Teacher of the Year celebration. The School based SLP of the Year is selected on an annual basis and is honored each September at a celebration for all Teachers of the Year organized by the RI Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

The requirements for the Rhode Island SLP of the Year include:

  • SLP must be an actively-employed, RIDE-certified SLP in one of the Local Education Agencies (LEAs) or districts in Rhode Island for a minimum of 2 years
  • SLP must demonstrate leadership qualities as a mentor, supervisor, etc.
  • SLP must demonstrate ongoing continuing education efforts
  • Nomination by a colleague(s) and/or administrator(s) who complete the application process in full.
  • Being a member of RISHA is not a requirement to be nominated.

The School Based SLP of the Year will be selected by members of the RISHA Honors Committee or a committee of appointees by the RISHA President and will receive the following:

  • A one year membership to RISHA.
  • A certificate of this honor will be sent to the awardee from RISHA.
  • Recognition on the various RISHA social media platforms as well as local newspapers.
  • Acknowledgement letters will be sent to the School Based SLP of the Year’s Superintendent, Special Education Director and School Committee.
