RISHA advocates for the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology in Rhode Island.
Our recent legislative successes include:
- Abolishing the “nine-year-rule” in 2022
- Establishing teletherapy regulations for out-of-state SLPs in 2023
Our current advocacy priorities include:
- helping public school SLPs achieve a contractual stipend for maintaining ASHA’s certificate of clinical competence
- addressing prior authorization requirements from third-party payers
- advocating for equitable co-pays with related therapeutic professions
- expanding occupation opportunities for Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) in Rhode Island
How can RISHA members assist in our advocacy efforts?
The primary method for advocacy is to communicate directly with your state representatives and senators. You can look up your local representatives here: vote.sos.ri.gov. They are listed under “state senator” and “state representative.”
